Pride Month, which takes place every June, can be a time to reflect on the decades-long journey to ensure equality for LGBTQ individuals and the struggle that continues. The number of celebrations and events has grown from the first Pride marches in New York, Los Angeles and Chicago on the one-year anniversary of the Stonewall events in 1970 to so many that U.S. News & World Report now produces a ranking of the top parades and celebrations across the country.

If this month finds you looking for Pride gifts, we’ve asked LGBTQ influencers and advocates for their recommendations. The gifts include books to jewelry to tea towels, so you’re bound to find something your giftees will love. "Queer Eye" star and author of "Right at Home: How Good Design is Good for the Mind" Bobby Berk is a big fan of this fragrance, which is made by the queer-owned brand Boy Smells. The company "offers a full line of ‘genderful’ fragrances that mix traditionally masculine and feminine scents together like Cameo, which combines floral, woodsy and spicy notes," he says. "It's a universal smell and the travel size makes it a breeze to pack in your bag for on-the-go application."

Michael Shore and Aaron Flynn, the married duo behind the gay lifestyle blog QueerDaze, recommend this "encyclopedia of queer culture" written by Justin Elizabeth Sayre. The 240-page book, which spotlights major figures and momentous events in the LGBTQ movement, "is a wonderful place to start for people new to the LGBTQ+ world," Shore and Flynn noted via email, adding that reading the funny, engaging book alongside friends "had us all in stitches and learning something new."

"One of the most thoughtful gifts you can give somebody for Pride is a personalized gift box" full of fun, themed gifts, say Charlotte Hockin and Natalie Bruynseels-Fogg, the couple behind the lesbian travel blog Our Taste for Life. If you think your gift recipient would appreciate some Pride-themed self-care essentials, consider putting together your own gift box. Urbanstems, for example, offers a Pride Bundle and you can easily add on extras like a bouquet or quartz face roller. An already-made package like this elegant "Love is Love" box that contains items like candles, soaps, eye pillows, bath bombs and more is also a thoughtful way to go.

Barry Hoy, the queer travel blogger behind the site AsianMapleLeaf, loves these fun, colorful candles that feature a mix of jasmine, cedar, teakwood and more to create a floral and forest-like scent. Not only does the "Yas Queer" candle "brighten up our living room" with its hue and scent, Hoy says, adding that he also "loves" the brand's product description, which says, "This is for everyone and anyone who identifies as queer. Don't let society change you, boo! We won't.’"

For the giftee who loves to adorn their denim jacket or backpack with pins: Consider gifting them this reflective, glow-in-the-dark pin that reads "any/all pronouns," or any of the other great options from the brand's queer-friendly and glow-reflective offerings. "Reflective Society is an LGBTQ+-owned brand, and I love their pronoun pins," says Brianne Huntsman, a queer designer and writer behind the blog The Huntswoman.

Any LGBTQ travel lovers in your life will likely have a blast flipping through this photo-filled book by author Maartje Hensen that highlights 500 travel destinations across the globe for queer people, says Hoy. The book includes information on the best Pride parades and film festivals, as well as resources about local laws and cultural attitudes. "It is colorful. It's loud. It's proud. And it's the perfect coffee table book that doubles for a queer travel guide," he notes, adding, "I have one in my living room and it really does give the room a splash of rainbow."

Hempz notes it has donated $100,000 to the organization through sales of its products over the years.. "It saddens me when I read that LGBTQ+ youth are four times more likely to commit suicide," says Shore and Flynn, adding another gift idea: "I love making a contribution to The Trevor Project in [friends’] names."

"There are tons of books out there about queer history, but this is the first title I’ve seen that explores the design side of the LGBTQIA+ community," says Berk. Written by art historian and curator Andy Campbell,"it offers a fascinating look at the history of designs, symbols and graphics from the past 50 years of pride and activism, and features iconic images like the original "Future Is Female" T-shirt and AIDS quilt. Plus, he adds, you can buy the book from a queer-owned online bookshop.
